The History of Heartland RV
Heartland Recreational Vehicles was founded in 2003 in Elkhart, Indiana, a region recognized as a major centre of recreational vehicle manufacturing in North America.
The company initially focused on fifth wheel trailers, introducing designs that emphasized interior storage, usable living space, and features intended to make extended camping more comfortable.
Over the following years, Heartland expanded its product lineup to include lightweight travel trailers, family-oriented campers, luxury fifth wheels, and toy haulers. Models such as the Bighorn, Sundance, Prowler, and Cyclone helped establish Heartland in several segments of the RV market.
Heartland became part of THOR Industries in 2010, joining one of the largest recreational vehicle manufacturing groups in North America.
In March 2025, THOR Industries announced that Heartland would be integrated into Jayco's operations. This restructuring was intended to improve manufacturing consistency, product development, operational efficiency, and customer support.
Heartland continues to operate as a distinct RV brand within the Jayco Family of Companies, retaining its established model names while benefiting from Jayco's manufacturing expertise and support systems.
Heartland RV and Jayco Manufacturing
The integration of Heartland RV into the Jayco Family of Companies represents an important change in the manufacturer's history.
Jayco has been building recreational vehicles since 1968 and has developed an extensive range of travel trailers, fifth wheels, and motorhomes. As part of the same corporate family, Heartland now benefits from Jayco's established manufacturing processes, quality assurance systems, and product development experience.
For the 2026 model year, Heartland introduced an updated approach to manufacturing and quality control, with an emphasis on construction standards, component selection, product consistency, and dealer support.
Although Heartland RVs continue to carry the Heartland name, the company's alignment with Jayco provides additional manufacturing resources and experience behind its current recreational vehicle lineup.
